Wednesday, December 24, 2014
-
Part 4 of the "Put a Freeze on Winter Fires" series focuses on Holiday safety. Use of candles, increased electrical usage and Christmas trees not being watered everyday all present a fire hazard. To keep your home safe this holiday season, the Nation Fire Protection Association recommends the following safety tips:

- Water live Christmas trees everyday

- Do not overload electrical outlets

- Ensure all candles are far enough away from any combustible material; 2 of every 5 home decoration fires are started by candles

- Use candle holders that do not tip over easily

- Never use a candle when oxygen is being used in the home

- Never lead a child alone in a room where a candle is burning, and never leave your home without extinguishing all candles first
