COOKING SAFETY TIPS FOR THE HOLIDAY SEASON

Did you know Thanksgiving day is the leading day for home fires involving cooking equipment? More cooks in the kitchen can sometimes mean more fires, don't let your home become a statistic! Here are some tips to keep your family safe as we kick off the start of the holiday season!

  • Stay in your home when cooking your turkey and check on it frequently
  • Stay in the kitchen when you are cooking on the stovetop so you can keep an eye on the food
  • Keep children at least 3 feet away from the stove; let them help prepare food by setting up stations away from the stove or in another room
  • Be sure to keep anything that can catch fire - oven mitts, wooden utensils, food packaging and towels - away from the stovetop
  • Thoroughly thaw out frozen turkey before you deep fry it, and always deep fry outside your home or garage
  • Have a fire extinguisher handy
